Blue Butterfly Flower - God's Message, Bronze, 1890-1891, Rodin Museum Collection

Text and photos by Chen Chi-Hsiang. This is the most socially morally challenging work among Rodin’s oeuvre, boldly displaying female genitalia. A headless female torso without a right hand, dancing and leaping, with crossed legs, her left hand gripping her bent left foot while her right foot extends, forming an extreme tension in its composition, akin to Courbet’s The Origin of the World.
