Bird in Space 194×14×21cm 1936 Centre Pompidou, Paris Collection of the Brâncuși Studio

"Bird in Space" (here featuring birds in three different materials: plaster, marble, and bronze) is a series Brancusi began in 1915, exploring various substances, with over twenty versions in different materials. The streamlined, slender vertical form features a horizontal cut at the top, creating a sharp beak-like point facing the sky. Its delicate legs and upper body form a fluid rhythm, as if ready to spread its wings and fly.
