Rooster 103×21×11cm 1935 Centre Pompidou, Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris

"Rooster" (bronze) is the result of Brancusi's "Rooster" series created since 1923. The rooster stands on one leg, head raised and crowing; its posture is lifelike—not merely a superficial appearance, but the life force of the object—full of vitality. Especially on the side, a row of rhythmic, tooth-like forms enhances the dynamic rhythm, appearing particularly perfect on this smooth bronze material. The sculptor said: "Smoothness must be required for the absolute relationship between form and material."
