David Damoison Life Scenes 2010

David Damoison Angel 2010. David Damoison "New Works" solo exhibition: June 5 to July 31 at Anne de Villepoix Gallery.

Born in 1963, David Damoison is a photojournalist whose work frequently appears in numerous French political and social current affairs magazines (such as Black Monthly, Liberation, and Le Nouvel Observateur). As a person of mixed French and Martinican heritage, his reporting revolves around personal identity issues, traveling between the Caribbean islands of Martinique, Guadeloupe, Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, and further to Africa's Congo and Mali, among others. Clearly, all his images point to the identity issues of Creoles (African descendants in the Caribbean) and Africans.

In recent decades, contemporary art has continuously expanded into imagery. Numerous photo exhibitions and various thematic shows have explored how images possess their uniqueness and expressiveness. Consequently, photographic imagery has thrived alongside the art market, forming the current fashion trend in the world of images. In recent years, many photojournalists have entered the art system; through their wit and sensitivity, insightful lenses tracking factual truths and exploring problems are fully comparable to painting and art.

Damoison seeks the intention of identity through sensitive lenses, free and flexible interpretation, and clear mental states. Each photograph conveys local life situations and insights, further exploring human conditions, and aims to correct people's prejudices against Creoles and Africans through imagery.
