"Playing Ball" 48×61 cm, 1899, held in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay, Paris

Valloton (Félix Valloton, 1865–1925) was the only Swiss painter among the Nabi artists. After graduating from high school in Lausanne, he came to Paris to study at the Julian Academy, where he interacted with fellow artists. He excelled in woodcut prints and also attempted writing novels, often moving between different styles. This painting, "Playing Ball" or a corner of the park, best exemplifies the Nabi style. It features a unique bird's-eye view of a park scene; under bright light, a little girl chases a ball, running on lush green grass. Two women beneath distant trees create a sense of deep space. Through decorative forms and contrasting color planes, as well as the interplay of light and shadow, it depicts the pleasant life of the Parisian bourgeoisie.
