Allegory of Good Government, 12 meters long, fresco, housed in the Palazzo Pubblico of Siena. The brothers Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti are the most representative painters of pre-Renaissance Siena in Italy, carrying forward the art of Duccio, influenced by Pisano's sculptural works, and also influenced by the Florentine painter Giotto of the time.
Their works, within a kind of natural realism, strive for solidity of form and expression of emotional depth, concise and powerful, rich in narrative quality. They boldly innovated natural realistic portraiture and explored deep space. Their most famous works are a series of frescoes in the Palazzo Pubblico and the Sala della Pace of Siena, among which the two large allegorical paintings of "Good Government" and "Bad Government" are the most outstanding. They thus became the pioneers of the Italian Renaissance.
