Phyllida Barlow - "Dock" Object Installation Exhibition Notes

This is an exhibition that establishes space, constructed according to the space; in other words, in situ, engaging in dialogue with architectural space. In this post-industrial and post-postmodern era, where "reality is art, art is reality," within a highly consumerist age and an objectified society, with utopias ended, many artists seem to be searching for new grand intentions and imaginations of a great Babel, constructing an ideal world in their minds. Artist Phyllida Barlow is no exception. Through organizational construction forms—piling up multi-media objects, hanging them to create imagery of "docks or berths"—she attempts to construct a new aesthetic perspective through multi-media material forms, colors, and structures. She presents the possibilities of a new world between reality and imagination, physics and psychology, time and space, consciousness and intellect, and aesthetics and sociology.
