The Daily Steps of an Art Connoisseur Reveal Endless Scenery
Standing on a London rooftop at the Sky Garden

Text / Shared from Chen Chi-Hsiang’s Dongjia Gallery Facebook page, 2014-07-30. Old friend Chen Chi-Hsiang is a remarkable figure. Having lived in Paris for over thirty years, he plays multiple roles: conceptual artist, sculptor, art critic (member of AICA), contemporary art historian, horticulturist, and expert in contemporary art and urban greening data. He tirelessly produces works and writings, and has long shared cultural information kindly on online communities, boasting millions of Chinese-speaking fans, yet he remains flexible and quite low-key.
This time, following him around Paris, we visited places that distant tourists would never go to, and local country bumpkins wouldn’t know to seek out. He also took me to some hidden gems and distinctive neighborhoods, which I will introduce to everyone another time. Chi-Hsiang said that art lies in the alleys, and culture lies in daily life. To understand culture, one must look beyond the surface spectacle; following the daily steps of an art connoisseur indeed reveals endless scenery!
