Tomorrow's Garden is both a garden and an innovative landscape exhibition, held at Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Paris from May 25 to July 1. The verdant garden occupies 2,600 square meters of the square, serving as a landscape demonstration project by the Paris municipal gardens and environment department to present prospects for future greening spaces and park construction in the City of Flowers. The reputation of Paris as the City of Flowers is well-deserved; the city itself resembles a magnificent grand park, with tree-lined avenues, roundabouts with colorful flower beds, green spaces, brilliant gardens, dense forest parks, and cemeteries—all representing the best quality of life for Parisians. Like all major metropolises, Paris constantly evolves and renews itself. The renewal of old neighborhoods, development of new communities, and continuous expansion of edges result in increasing green spaces and parks, as these indicate quality of life in concrete-walled cities and meet urban residents' needs. With changing times and continuous metropolitan progress, green spaces and parks adapt to temporal and environmental contexts, creating possible forms and styles within today's environmental awareness. Tomorrow's Garden points toward the construction of this emerging future metropolitan landscape.
The delightful display of Tomorrow's Garden serves as a model landscape proposing how Parisian parks and green spaces have evolved over the past decade-plus in response to time, space, and environment. It illustrates how the city administration carefully integrates environmental and eco-greening awareness amidst metropolitan transformation, aiming to recover either nature within the city or a naturalized city. Tomorrow's Garden synthesizes current planning forms of Parisian gardens, parks, and green spaces. Surrounding a wooden platform are series of thematic, delightful gardens, colorful flower beds, urban natural flora, lush green walls, wall-mounted plant series, poetic canvas gardens, playful children's vegetable gardens, rock gardens, pond gardens, and various imaginative themed gardens. Notable features include three large red watering cans, sculptures, and scarecrows dotting the garden. It also highlights clear themes regarding how contemporary gardens and parks under environmental awareness manage rainwater collection, wastewater treatment conversion, reception and conversion of urban plastic materials, and solar energy. Through this leisurely stroll and walking guide, it encourages public attention to our living metropolitan environment and provides clear prospects and general understanding of future green spaces and park planning in Paris.
