Text and images by Chen Chi-Hsiang. Venue: Lelong Gallery. Dates: October 16 to November 22. Rebecca Horn (b. 1944) is one of Europe's most representative kinetic artists today. Since the 1970s, she has explored diverse mediums, from body performance art, video art, drawing, and writing to constructing lightweight kinetic machines, up to her current kinetic sculptures. Moving from simple objects to complex installations in her early work, she experimented with varied formal compositions to create totalizing spaces. Her ingenious sculptures often feature sensitive material assemblies within simple motorized actions: painted feathers or bird wings, violins, hammers, metal, copper pipes, mirrors, pools, pastels, plastic buckets, and water pails. They frequently evoke poetic natural scenes, sometimes incorporating industrial behaviors or humanistic functions.
