Text/Photos by Chen Chi-Hsiang. Visiting the Serpentine Sackler Gallery - 4: XLVIII AICA International Congress, London 2015. The AICA symposium was held at the Royal College of Art on the 27th, directly opposite Kensington Gardens. The weather was unusually clear today. After nearly five hours of meetings in the basement, we took a break at 2 p.m. Since no lunch was provided, we handled it ourselves. Chen and I crossed the road into Kensington Gardens to find food, expecting sandwiches at a small wooden hut, but they only sold desserts and ice cream. Still hungry, we visited the famous Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London (located within the park), which is a must-visit on every art trip to London. I led Chen to see the exhibition.

The Serpentine Sackler Gallery has two exhibition spaces hosting two solo shows: American artist Jimmie Durhan (b. 1940) – "Various Items and Complaints," featuring constructions assembled from everyday objects combined with narrative text, expressing conceptual ideas through sensory and intellectual object sculptures; and Rachel Rose’s "Palisades," a sound and video installation where poetic melodies guide viewers into a dreamlike world, featuring ghostly imagery and perspectives spanning macro and micro realms, full of imaginative space between perception and depth.
