Exhibition venue: Anne de Villepoix Gallery. Dates: May 13 to June 23. Text and images by Chen Chi-Hsiang. Stephane Pencreac'h (born 1970) is one of the few emerging French artists still exploring traditional painting and sculpture in this post-postmodern era. He excels at using historical and symbolic themes (such as unicorns), along with mythological figures and historical legends, to articulate contemporary human conditions through modern forms and perspectives, posing literary questions about existence, sex, love, and death. His paintings are expressive figurative works set within sensual and narrative contexts, referencing current cinema or the internet world. In this new series, he mixes painting and objects, aiming to construct a possibility for 3D painting and explore a new aesthetic experience.
