Kandinsky (V. Kandinsky) - Composition
V. Kandinsky - Composition IX 113x195cm 1936 Collection of the Saint-Étienne Museum, France

This is one of Kandinsky's most important masterpieces from his Bauhaus period and an interpretation of his theories on plastic art (point, line, plane). A new organization is formed through points, curves, rectangles, squares, circles, irregular shapes, and gradated tones. Works from this period exhibit a serious discipline, built upon the forms of geometric elements and the most rigorous areas; even scattered compositions possess accuracy. Kandinsky wrote: "The great work of plastic art is a symphonic composition," and "Form and color themselves constitute a language capable of expressing emotions, speaking directly to the soul like music." Complex, perfect forms thus become the manifestation of the lyrical music deep within Kandinsky's heart.
