Wave, influenced by Japanese ukiyo-e, agate and bronze, 1897-1900, Musée Rodin collection

This work is Camille's masterpiece with the most personal style. Like Conversation, it manifests in these unusual materials, completely stepping out of the shadow of Rodin's sculptural aesthetics. Here, using the Japanese ukiyo-e Waves as a theme, it depicts two bathing women playing in the water (bronze) beneath surging waves (composed of flower agate, with some yellow and green tones evoking the feeling of water). Her brother Paul described it: "This is Camille's most crucial work; she transformed Japanese waves into European waves."
