Gaze - The Digital Brave New World
The Non-Mental Image series, influenced and impacted by digital imagery, penetrates the signs and metaphors of digital images, compiling a new vocabulary of visual poetry. Through subjective forms and opulent colors, it pioneers two major series: still life and portraiture, full of allegorical and literary beauty. The still lifes are a metaphor for the diverse tentacles of the current digitized brave new world, while the portraits manifest contemporary perception and reference.
As the French philosopher Michel Foucault said in Utopian Body: "I find myself in a place that is virtually behind its surface. I am inside, I am inside it. It is a sort of virtual space that is almost behind the looking glass. I am there, there where I am the shadow, a sort of visible shadow that allows me to see myself where I am absent." — "Of Other Spaces," lecture, 1967 (published in Dits et Écrits: 1978)
