Friends for Life: Remembering My Dear Friend Chen Hsing-Wan

Text and photos by Chen Chi-Hsiang. Every time Taiwan holds a presidential election, I remember my dear friend Chen Hsing-Wan. I recall that twelve years ago we agreed to return to Taiwan to vote; however, I had urgent matters and could not go back. At that time, you visited my home twice. You seemed robust, so when I suddenly learned of your passing one morning, it was truly a shock. Indeed, life is impermanent.
I often say that friends are for life. Someone may leave first, but as long as one remains, they are imprinted in the deep consciousness of life. Whenever we think of or speak about her (or him), or even see their works, it feels as though our friends are still with us. On this twelfth anniversary, I offer this text as a tribute to my memories and longing. I know that eternal remembrance is part of existence.
