The Chen Chi-Hsiang and Yang Chiu-Hsiang group exhibition "Mind Imprint: Penetrate, Transcend, Imagine" runs from New Year’s Day 2010 through late February at Yunshui Studio in Fengshan, Chiayi. Life’s encounters begin with tangible existence, launching an endless spiritual journey; amidst life’s searchings, we seek to glimpse the true self. In this dreamlike world, where illusion and reality blur—falsehoods seeming true, truths appearing false, like flowers in a mirror or the moon reflected in water—life’s substance and void are illusory. You and I, within and beyond time and space, are woven “dreams”; life’s dreamlike truth mirrors the reality of dreams, just as existence mirrors life.
The exhibition theme derives from the film Inception. As the director reflects on his own explorations during life’s journey: “I crossed seven oceans, climbed seven mountains, traversed all river valleys, crossed vast plains, experienced every season, traveled worldwide, only to discover upon returning home that the entire world lies within my garden, within the dewdrop on a single leaf.” This serves as a metaphor for our personal artistic inquiries.
Paris-based artist Chen Chi-Hsiang’s recent work centers on the “Flowers in the Mirror, Moon in the Water” series, using painting to illustrate the illusory nature of existence. The idiom “flowers in the mirror, moon in the water, life like a dream” perfectly captures his artistic vision. Sculptor Yang Chiu-Hsiang highly values intellectual freedom; as a female artist, her own body naturally becomes her subject, vividly expressing women’s extraordinary qualities and souls. Through meticulous exploration of every state of life, she carves the imprint of a soul leaving its mark step by step, declaring, “Between my palms lies my universe.”
