Yang Chiu-Hsiang "Tracing the Origin - The Genesis of the Dream Series"
Genesis of the Dream Series - Left: Hua of Dreams Center: Sheng of Dreams <Male> Right: Sheng of Dreams <Female> 2010

"All things have love; love forms the endless cycle of life on Earth and in the universe. Love, in any form, is an expression of power. The love between two sexes is one such symbol, which the artist chose to shape into concrete expression."

"Life always moves forward on a journey of seeking. No matter how many people accompany you or pass by on this journey, your most intimate companion remains yourself."

"Everything is like a first dream. Everything is like waking from a dream. All of it... is merely consciousness shuttling between reality and illusion."

"Where do humans come from? Where are they going? Through discoveries formed by the physical body, observing that the source of all life in the external world looks almost identical. It is nothing more than oval or exclamation mark shapes. From human bodies to plant seeds, animal sperm to plant stamens, they are almost indistinguishable. Although the creation of the universe is complex, it constantly hints to us everywhere and at all times that the essence of life stems from truth, goodness, and beauty. This playful, improvised work 'Exclamation Mark' features an exclamation mark enclosing another exclamation mark, one after another. This means that the source of all things gave birth to the sources of various lives. The source of life continuously produces inexhaustible lives in the pattern of exclamation marks. The hint we see is that this world is composed of countless exclamation marks."

"Not long after inadvertently completing Sheng of Dreams, she recalled an important concept in Chinese intellectual history: Taiji. Then, the widely familiar Taiji Yin-Yang diagram emerged in my mind. A curve divides it into two halves, forming half white and half black; white resembles Yang, black resembles Yin. White contains a black dot, and black contains a white dot, indicating that Yin exists within Yang and Yang within Yin. Removing one white dot and one black dot results in Taiji, and further removing them leads to Wuji. Thus, before I entered the exploration of Taiji, the division of Yin and Yang already existed."

"The activity of dreams begins the endless cycle of all things."

The artist explains:
"Taiji generally refers to the most primitive order state of the universe universe, appearing after the chaotic period (Wuji) where Yin and Yang yin and yang were undifferentiated, subsequently forming the origin of all things (the universe universe). In my view, the universe is more like a woven dream, weaving dreams constantly everywhere and at all times. The woven dreams are the earth and all things, human affairs, flowers that are not flowers, mist that is not mist, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. If presenting the appearance of the universe through form or symbols, besides a 'circle,' there seems to be nothing more appropriate. A 'circle' has no boundaries, just as the universe has no beginning or end. But how does it form all things, form you and me? This work is simply a circular body. I hide a small drilled hole underneath. It exists simultaneously with the universe and will exist forever. It is an invisible existence from all directions. Borrowing a mirror allows us to see its true existence from all directions. That small hole is the 'dream' connecting everything. The release of all 'dreams' forms reality. The previous immature 'dream' was also a mature 'dream' of that time. The now complete 'dream' is holistic, within and beyond space-time. You and I are both woven 'dreams.' After tracing back to the origin, I, who was once confused in the rabbit hole like Alice in Wonderland, have now reached a state of clarity. Thus, I can stand outside the 'dream' and re-weave 'myself,' continuing the next journey of life. When I press and knead this circle, my universe lies between my palms."
Yang Chiu-Hsiang (born 1965) is a creator without formal art education who does not identify primarily as an artist. She highly values personal free thinking and spiritual cultivation, engaging in diverse explorations through her comprehensive lifestyle: besides sculptural art creation, she also engages in creative cooking, gardening, and floral arts. Guided by the principle of "universal compassion and the unity of life," she manifests these values everywhere in her living space, highlighting her extraordinary temperament and the radiance of life, attempting to verify ineffable existential mysteries. Precisely because she is not formally trained, her sculptural works appear unique. As a female creator, the female body naturally becomes her subject of focus and expression. With her delicacy and sensitivity, she thoroughly grasps the extraordinary qualities and soul of women. Recently, Chiu-Hsiang has been weaving another true "dream" of her life. She says, "Thus, I see, I hear, and I know. In the universe, dreams serve as the source of all things, marking the beginning of my personal pursuit of life's essence. I observe that the sources of all life in the external world look almost identical, essentially oval or exclamation mark shapes. From human bodies to plant seeds, animal sperm to plant stamens, they are nearly identical. The creation of the universe is actually not so complex. The 'Dream' series, a playful improvised work, features an exclamation mark enclosing another exclamation mark, one after another. This implies that the source of all things gave birth to the source of life, and the source of life continuously produces exclamation marks. This world is composed of countless exclamation marks." Her intention is to trace the origin of life through "Dreams," penetrating every state of life. She says, "Because my universe lies between my palms."
