Text and images by Chen Chi-Hsiang. The earth awakens; spring, a time of renewal, is always enchanting. No matter where on Earth you are, spring brings warmth and happiness to the world. After the harsh winter, temperatures and climate gradually warm with the changing seasons. A youthful vitality unfolds in all human activities, quickly entering the carnival of spring plowing.

Spring arrives on the earth, most visibly in nature, dancing quickly to the rhythm of time. Sparks of spring ignite at the treetops, fast-paced and intense. In this season of lush greenery and blooming flowers, the land is adorned with vibrant, brilliant scenery. The goddess of spring descends to humanity, warming hearts and filling them with happiness. Love sings its praises in spring.

In Taiwan’s vibrant, brilliant spring, mountains bloom with flowers, especially cherry and plum blossoms. This year, the crowds visiting Alishan and Wuling Farm to view flowers were unimaginable. Beauty is human nature; loving flowers is our instinct. Those who appreciate beauty through flower viewing are the happiest. Spring outings are the most delightful and comfortable season. The goddess of spring guards the rhythm and melody of time, as everything dances to her tune. In this season of full bloom, let your heart blossom like flowers.

Besides viewing cherry blossoms at Alishan, what remains most memorable are the yellow or purple tabebuia trees lining parks and streets on the plains. Next come the dazzling kapok flowers. Beautiful scenes can be found everywhere. At Fenqihu on Alishan, the hills are filled with datura. On Taiwan’s eastern side, lyrical chapters unfold—amaryllis, or strings upon strings of hanging purple-blue wisteria. Back gardens hold endless aesthetic and emotional beauty: azaleas, camellias, vibrant cannas, and hoya. Fields shine with “shuozha” (likely a typo for a local flower name), and even wildflowers and weeds are charming. The eastern hills are full of mango and lychee blossoms.

Of course, snowy white tung blossoms and dazzling golden shower trees soon appear and dance. Each season is a gift from God, each with its own life rhythm, forming a complete symphony of existence.
